Khalifa University Discovery Center

Launched on July 4th 2010, the Khalifa University Discovery Center offers educators, students, and technology buffs a rare, "behind-the-scenes" glimpse into Intel's world of high technology.

Immerse yourself into a world of micro-miniature computer chips, be showered in Binary rain, crack a Binary code and understand what happens when millions of electronic components are packed into quarter-inch squares of silicon and time is measured in billionths of seconds.  The Khalifa University Intel Discovery Center is Abu Dhabi’s first hands on interactive science exhibit designed to bring the science of semi conductors and micro chips alive.

    Opening Times

    School visits will be on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday from 10:00 Am – 1:00PM

    Public visits will be on Wednesday from 4:00 – 7:00PM; guided tour will commence every half hour

    During the Science Festival the Discovery Centre will open every day from 10:00AM -1:00 PM for school visits and from 4:00 -7:00PM for public visits.

    Cars:  There are parking spaces for cars in front of the Main Gates of the University, highlighted on the map.

    Buses: There are parking spaces available with easy drop on and drop off for groups, in front of the Main Gate, highlighted in Green.  We recommend that you inform us first so that we can book these for you.

     

    Bookings

    Field trip programs and guided tours are available by advance reservation.

    We recommend that for large groups you should inform the Discovery Center team so that they can help you to book in advance.

  • Our Exhibits

    Exhibits appeal to engineers and grade-school students alike, and stimulate interest in technology and how it increasingly affects our daily lives. At the 1000 sq ft center you can be introduced to the world of micro-miniature computer chips, experience what it’s like inside ultra-clean, highly automated factories and see how computing and communications are converging in new types of digital devices. Key features of the Center include:

    Binary Rain
    Experience your first Digital shower of rain. Go ahead and catch some as it falls.
    Binary Code
    Learn how a series of 1’s and 0’s forms a Binary language then proceed to ‘talk’ to the computer in this unique way.
    The Fab
    Witness for yourself one of the most technically advanced manufacturing facilities in the world and see where tiny silicon chips are made.
    Get digitized!
    Use the newest digital technology to send a digital souvenir postcard to friends.

    Learning for all

    Khalifa University’s core aim is the promoting of learning of engineering for all ages and with this in mind the Center offers interactive exhibits and educational videos, which are supported by educational programs. The Center welcomes all visitors, with a special focus for Grades 10 and onwards.

  • Cafe

    Exploring the complex world of silicon technology, can make you thirsty and hungry. There are two cafes which you can stop at to refuel at any time, which are both located next to the Academic Block within the University on the Ground Floor.

    Opening hours: From 8am until 5pm.

    Offering a range of hot and cold beverages, sandwiches, salads, pastries and muffins.


    Café Du Roi

    Opening hours: From 8:30am until 6pm.

    Offering a range of fresh juices, salads, sandwiches and light refreshments.
