The ANKABUT project is the National Research and Education Network (NREN) in the UAE. ANKABUT’s function is to provide a medium to connect academic and research institutions at speeds typically multiple times faster than commercial Internet. The network has connected 25 campuses and is rapidly expanding in the areas of networking and service provision. ANKABUT works in partnership with education and research institutes together with telecom operators to provide the network infrastructure. ANKABUT, like other NRENs, will be providing selection of services that include, but not limited to: voice and video conferencing, national federated SSO, inter-library systems, cloud computing, and offsite disaster recovery.
ANKABUT is a start-up not-for-profit establishment designed to increase the collaboration between universities and push forward education in the UAE as a whole. ANKABUT is a well financed, lean and fast moving project in a challenging environment. It is currently seeking ambitious people who can drive forward ideas-and-concepts to make a real difference in leading academic institutions with high calibre professional end users.
