Multimedia Communication and Signal Processing Research Group

Motivation
The vision of being able to communicate from anywhere at anytime with any type of information has lead to the convergence between the areas of multimedia processing and communication. This new area called multimedia communication and signal processing is expected to achieve unprecedented growth and worldwide commercial success.
Challenges and Solutions
The processing and communication of non-conventional types of data (e.g. images and video) bring new challenges to traditionally established areas of communication, computing and electronics engineering. To face these challenges, complete multimedia processing and communication systems are likely to draw together solutions from different subjects such as computer vision, image processing, human-computer interaction, source coding, channel coding, network design, and digital signal processing (DSP) among others. This is a truly interdisciplinary and exciting area of research and development.
Mission and Objectives
The MCSP research group was established to undertake and promote R&D in multimedia communication and signal processing. The objectives of the group are to:

achieve improvements in the theory, design, implementation and operation of multimedia communication and signal processing systems and their applications, and
to disseminate the results of this research to industry and the international research community
