RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT CENTRE
The university is in the process of establishing a world-class research and development (R&D) centre. An efficient and proactive organization, the centre will follow best practices in its management and procedures. With state-of-the-art facilities and resources, the centre will employ staff with a proven international track-record in technology R&D.
The vision is for this centre to be the leading regional centre of R&D in technology and applied sciences. The mission of the centre will be to promote the economic development and competitiveness of Abu Dhabi and the UAE by fostering innovation, technology transfer, and entrepreneurship.
The centre will identify and focus on the development of science and technology clusters that are most relevant to Abu Dhabi and the UAE. Examples are the information and communication technology (ICT) cluster, the energy and resources cluster, the aerospace cluster, and the nanotechnology cluster.
The centre will build on the strengths of the university's research and postgraduate studies to support the relevant clusters. The centre will foster partnership and collaboration between the university, research institutions, government, business, and industry. This will enhance, influence and inform the university's research and teaching by providing faculty and students with opportunities to interact with potential users of the outcomes of the research and potential employers of graduates. It will also provide university graduates with new and attractive job opportunities in technology R&D.
The centre will attract well established R&D technology institutions and companies to Abu Dhabi and the UAE. It will also incubate and support the growth of new innovative R&D technology start-ups.
