All applicants who meet the minimum requirements must sit for math and physics admission tests. Except for those who are eligible for Exemption from Entry Assessment.

In addition, students who don’t meet the minimum required score in academic IELTS / TOEFL IBT are required to sit for an English language admission test. The purpose of this test is to determine the level of English course in which the student will be placed.

All applicants must demonstrate proficiency in English, the language of instruction at KU. Most applicants must satisfy this requirement by passing academic IELTS – (International English Language Testing System)or the International TOEFL IBT(Test of English as a Foreign Language). 

Test dates vary by location. They are not offered at KU. Please visit the relevant website for information on how to register for the exams:

Academic IELTS (6.0) 

Admitted students who score below 79 on the TOEFL IBT test or below 6 on the academic IELTS test have the option to enroll in an English Preparatory Program. Some students may have to take English admission test before enrolling in the Preparatory Program.

All programs offered by Khalifa University have received accreditation by the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. Accreditation attests to the overall quality of the individual degree programs.

 

International students who are admitted to Khalifa University must have their own resident visa.

All students who live more than 100 km from Khalifa University’s Abu Dhabi campus are permitted to stay in student housing. Separate male and female accommodations are provided. Click here for more information on student housing.

All transfer candidates who are interested in applying to Khalifa University should meet the admission requirements. In addition, they should submit an official copy of their transcript(s) along with the other admission documents to be considered upon evaluation of their admission application. No credit hours will be transferred if the candidate was accepted. To apply click here.  

All UAE National students accepted in undergraduate programs enjoy a full scholarship to study at Khalifa University. International students must maintain a GPA of 3.00 or higher each semester to keep their full or partial scholarship.

Khalifa University of Science, Technology and Research is an independent, non-profit, coeducational institution inaugurated in 2007 as part of an Abu Dhabi Government initiative. It was founded in February 2007 by a decree from UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan to complement Abu Dhabi’s 2030 vision.  

KU is licensed and accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the United Arab Emirates.

Please note that you will not be able to make changes to documents that have already been submitted. If you would like to change one of your submitted documents, please contact the for advice.

No. An electronic reference request will be automatically e-mailed to your nominated referees once the application is submitted. The referees will be asked to complete an online Reference Letter Application Form and this is the only reference Khalifa University will accept. Please do not ask your referees to e-mail the University.

Admission requirements and program information

The requirements for admission to Khalifa University programs are outlined on our Graduate Admissions requirements page. Please note that admission is highly competitive and meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee entry into the program.

You can still apply and your application may be considered for conditional admission. Such applications are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

English is the official language of instruction and assessment at Khalifa University. To be eligible for admission, applicants must achieve a minimum score of 91 iTOEFL (internet-based test) or Academic IELTS with a minimum overall band of 6.5. The test must have been taken during the 24 months (2 years) preceding the application.

The following exceptions may by granted in lieu of an English language test score:

  • A native speaker of English who has completed his/her undergraduate/graduate education in an English medium institution in a country where English is the official language.
  • An applicant admitted to and graduated from an English medium institution that can provide evidence of acquiring a minimum TOEFL score of 61 (internet-based test) or its equivalent (e.g. a minimum Academic IELTS score of 5.0 out of 9) upon admission to the undergraduate program; or a minimum TOEFL score of 70 (internet-based test) or its equivalent (e.g. a minimum Academic IELTS score of 5.5) upon admission to their prior graduate program.

Students who have completed their tertiary studies outside the UAE must obtain an equivalency certificate from the UAE Ministry of Education. Please refer to the official MOE websitefor further information and to apply.

Yes, you should still apply. Please submit your academic transcripts to date, as well as a letter confirming your status as a registered student and your expected graduation date. Unofficial transcripts can be submitted at the time of application. These documents are mandatory at the time of application and can be obtained from your university.

The grading scale or grading scheme explains the academic results displayed on your transcript. It is mandatory to submit a copy of the grading scale with your application. Most universities post the grading scale on their website or print it on the back of the transcript. Alternatively, you should contact the administration office at your university.

Shortlisted applicants are normally invited to attend an interview before final admission decisions are released. Please note that the University is unable to provide status updates on individual applications.

  • For the Fall Semester, final decisions will be released via e-mail by the end of July.
  • For the Spring Semester, final decisions will be released via e-mail by the end of December.

Please note that some of our programs are open to UAE Nationals only. You can check the details of each program in the Graduate Programssection.

If you are a UAE National, you can undertake your studies full-time or part-time, depending on the program you apply for. Students who are not UAE Nationals, cannot undertake part-time studies.

Please also note that some of our programs are available on a part-time basis only.

No. Khalifa University does not accept transfer credits.

You are encouraged to explore research areas at Khalifa University by viewing Faculty profiles and research fields online. The assignment of supervisors will be made by the University following the completion of the application process and is based on strategic research priorities.

Please note that scholarships are awarded subject to availability and will be confirmed at the conclusion of the admission process. No additional application is required to be considered for a scholarship.
