Department of Applied Mathematics and Sciences

The Applied Mathematics and Sciences (AMS) Department is dedicated to being a nucleus of research in diverse fields from basic research to the most innovative and emerging applied technologies, and to providing quality instruction in mathematics, and fundamental and applied natural sciences. 

The AMS department is a unit within the College of Engineering at Khalifa University and hosts a vibrant community of scholars who actively engage in research and development within rapidly emerging scientific fields. Research in AMS Department is funded by local and international agencies, and the department is actively working to setting up and developing modern experimental and computing research facilities. 

AMS faculty are members of prestigious world-wide professional organizations such as ACS, AMS, APS, IEEE, MRS, SIAM, AAPT and others, and several are winners of prestigious peer-reviewed research awards. 

The department offers a B.Sc. program in Applied Mathematics & Statistics with two optional concentrations in Financial Mathematics and Mathematical Biology. Students may choose to complete a broad program of study leading to the award of a B.Sc. degree in Applied Mathematics & Statistics, or select one of the two concentrations in order to focus their final year in the program on a particular area of application.

B.Sc. in Applied Mathematics and Statistics (with optional concentration in Mathematical Biology or Financial Mathematics)

The B.Sc. in Applied Mathematics & Statistics graduates students who possess both the knowledge and skills to make an immediate contribution towards realization of the economic and educational aspirations for Abu Dhabi, defined in the Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030.

The concentration in Mathematical Biology helps students gain expertise in mathematical thinking related to biomedical systems and medicine.

The concentration in Mathematical Finance aims to provide training in the application of engineering methodologies and quantitative skills in finance.

Faculty at the AMS department are dedicated to innovative and interactive teaching methods, and have helped launch modern teaching methods and courses, both within and outside the AMS Department, such as:

  • Game-based Chemistry Learning

In addition, the Department of AMS offers assistance to the Peparatory Program that aims to bridge the difficulties faced by UAE high school graduates when they enroll in college.

Quantum Computing Research Group

The Quantum Computing Research Group (QCRG) is a multi-disciplinary research effort into the theory and the practical development of quantum computers and their innovative technological applications.
