Khalifa University of Science and Technology Students Celebrate 46th UAE National Day Across Three Campuses

Proud displays of UAE national flags and various traditional activities signifying culture and heritage marked the 46th National Day celebrations across the Khalifa University of Science and Technology campuses as students, faculty and staff joined the commemoration of the country’s historic occasion.
All the three campuses wore a festive look in national colors as students gathered for the flag-hoisting ceremony with the playing of the UAE National Anthem, marking the beginning of the activities that was joined by the entire community. The two-day festivities included traditional activities, student booths, and a display of Emirati cuisine in addition to a number of special live traditional music and dance performances.
The activities at Khalifa University main campus included poetry recitals on the country’s glorious past and current achievements, a speech by student Ghaia Almansoori on the UAE’s heritage and history, screening of a film on the country’s economic development, and a musical titled ‘Following Zayed’s Footsteps’ that paid homage to the UAE’s Founding Father late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. A live performance by ‘Zayed's Star’ group concluded the proceedings on the campus that also hosted an Emirati hospitality tent, an interactive museum, a ‘House of Horror’ for the specially inclined, section titled ‘Space Escape’, a Kids’ Zone and a planetarium.
The campus at Masdar City also opened the activities with UAE National Anthem that was followed by live performance by local school children, and the popular folk group Al Ayala. In addition special booths offered live cooking of traditional food, handicraft items, as well as henna. The camel and falcon – two cherished symbols of the UAE and integral features of desert life– were also present. Additionally, students displayed creative work titled ‘In the Footsteps of Zayed’ as well as other works by the Art Club.
At the Sas Al Nakhl campus, activities included the traditional opening eremony, a short film on the UAE’s stellar economic growth, and performances by the Harbiyya Band and the Emirati and Theater Club. In addition, other features included an Emirati hospitality tent, Zayed Museum, a special maze challenge and a dedicated Astronomy and Observatory booth. The ‘Dive into the 1960’s’ section offered a glimpse into the UAE’s past.

The student groups’ activities signifying the country’s heritage and custom to mark the National Day seek to highlight the spirit of the country’s union.
