Khalifa University of Science and Technology Participates in the World Skills Abu Dhabi 2017

Khalifa University of Science and Technology announced its participation at the World Skills Abu Dhabi 2017, currently held in Abu Dhabi until October 18. The University is organizing two competitions under the umbrella of “Future Skills”; namely, Cyber Security and Drones: Build and Fly. Future Skills competitions objective is to organize these skill competitions in the next World Skills 2019 in collaboration with Abu Dhabi Center for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (ACTVET).


The organization of Future Skills competitions aims at getting these critical skills for youth included in the upcoming World Skills 2019, which will be held in Kazan, Russia.


Ten teams of students from the Institutes of Applied Technology (IAT) participate in the competitions; five in each competition. The participating students went through a four-month training program in preparations for these competitions. Students from the University also volunteered to organize the competitions and help in the judging as experts.


In the Cyber Security competition, student teams are asked to build secure social networking sites and are requested to attempt to hack websites provided by the organizing committee. In the final stages, each team attempts to hack other team sites while trying to tweak the security aspects of their own sites to prevent other teams from hacking through them.


The Drones: Build and Fly competition require student teams to build and program UAVs to accurately carry out autonomous missions provided by the organizers.

For five consecutive years, Khalifa University has organized several competitions as part of the annual Emirates Technology and Innovation Competitions (ETIC), which is part of the annual Emirates Skills. The University’s objective with ETIC is to create a great opportunity for UAE national students to measure their skills against their peers from other institutions while acquiring valuable skills and experience, compete for prizes and engage potential employers."


Cyber Security and Drones: Build and Fly are two out of seven competitions that Khalifa University organizes annually as part of ETIC. The other five competitions include Computer Programming, Mobile Application Programming, Game Development, Electronics: Design and Build and Renewable Energy categories.


In addition to the organization of Future Skills competitions, four Khalifa University students are participating in World Skills Abu Dhabi 2017. Namely, Nouf Al Kaabi, in IT Software Solutions for Business, Ibrahim Al Raeesi and Hamad Al Remeithi, in Mobile Robotics and Shahad AlHosani, in Visual Merchandising and Window Dressing category.
