KUSTAR organizes a seminar on autonomic smart home for the elderly
KUSTAR has organized a seminar in its Sharjah Campus on an ongoing project combining information technology (IT), biotechnology (BT) and nanotechnology (NT) in a synergistic manner. The project is to be applied to smart homes to monitor the safety and the well-being of elderly persons, as a convergence of ubiquitous -health (U-Health) and ubiquitous-environment (U-Environment).

The focus of the research is on helping elderly people live a more independent life as long as possible, in their own home, while being remotely monitored and assisted in an none intrusive manner. Elderly will be continuously monitored for early detection of symptoms so diseases can be treated earlier than in later stages as is currently done, to promote health wellness, as well as to treat chronic illnesses. The presentation was delivered by Prof. Nazim Agoulmine, a Western Carolina University distinguished visiting professor and a professor at the University of Evry Val d'Essonne, France. Nazim Agoulmine holds a Master and Ph.D. degrees in computer science from the University of Paris XI (France) and an Engineering diploma from the University of USTHB (Algeria).
